Two ways the American Rescue Plan will protect our health

When President Joe Biden took office, he promised the American people that help was on the way. Now, Biden and progressives have delivered on that promise by passing the American Rescue Plan

Here are two ways the American Rescue Plan will protect our health as we continue working to get through the COVID-19 pandemic:

Vaccines for all

In March, President Biden said that all Americans will be eligible for vaccinations by May 1. Then, Governor Tim Walz said, “you’ll be in line before that in Minnesota.”

Both statements are proving to be true. And that’s thanks to progressives making major investments in vaccines.

The American Rescue Plan provides $20 billion for vaccine distribution. That includes $1 billion for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) to launch a vaccine awareness and engagement campaign. And it includes $7.5 billion to set up vaccination sites across the country.

As a result of increased vaccine funding, Gov. Walz expanded vaccine eligibility to all Minnesotans age 16 and older. And he announced that the Minnesota State Fairgrounds will become a COVID-19 mass vaccination site. The site will have enough doses to vaccinate more than 100,000 people.

Additionally, President Biden announced that he’s moving the deadline for all U.S. adults to be eligible for the COVID vaccine to April 19. That’s almost two weeks ahead of his original May 1 deadline.

This is all great news. Because the quicker we can get vaccines into the arms of more people, the quicker we can end this pandemic.

Lower health care costs

The American Rescue Plan greatly reduces health insurance costs for millions of American families.

In Minnesota, a 60-year old couple earning $75,000 per year could see their monthly health insurance premium come down by $773 per month. Imagine what you could do with that kind of monthly savings.

The bill also temporarily increases subsidies for people purchasing health insurance through the marketplace. It includes billions of dollars for public health programs and veterans’ health care. And it helps those who have lost jobs keep the health insurance coverage they had through their employer.

Conservatives all voted against the plan

Even though the American Rescue Plan will help protect our health and speed up our COVID-19 recovery, every conservative in Congress voted against it. And that includes Minnesota’s conservative Representatives Pete Stauber, Jim Hagedorn, Michelle Fischbach, and Tom Emmer.

We need you to help us hold them accountable for hurting our ability to recover from the pandemic.
